According to The Sun, perennial Scottish Premier League champions Celtic could be about to beat Manchester City to the signing of Birmingham youngster Mitchell Roberts.
What’s the word?
The transfer window still remains open for Scottish clubs, meaning Celtic have an advantage over the Premier League champions, as reports suggest they are both interested in the Blues centre-back.
Roberts has been impressing for both the Under-18s and the Under-23s since completing rehab following a knee injury sustained during his first year as a scholar.

The 18-year-old regards John Stones as the best player in his position in the world, so maybe that is a hint towards how the starlet models his own game.
A worrying trend
If Birmingham let Roberts depart the club, it would only continue a disappointing trend at the St Andrew’s Stadium.
The west Midlands has typically been a fantastic breeding ground for young talent, particularly in the blue part of the region.
Though, none of them go on to become legends at the club as they end up continuing their careers elsewhere.
The most notable examples are Nathan Redmond, Demarai Gray, and Che Adams – who Birmingham never got the most out of.

Redmond regularly featured in the Championship for the Blues following relegation from the Premier League in 2011, playing 82 times across three seasons.
His performances earned a move back into the top-flight with Norwich – a decision then-manager Lee Clark had claimed would be ‘foolish’ before it eventually happened.
Whilst Gray is now at Leicester City, and Adams has since joined him in the big time.
Southampton signed him this summer in a £15m move having netted 22 goals last term – Pep Clotet’s men have since struggled for goals this season, scoring just four in five matches which is the joint-third bottom in the league, per WhoScored.
Meanwhile, Birmingham still remain in the Championship and have only managed tenth as their highest finish since the 2012/13 season, so maybe it’s time they actually get the full potential out of their prospects instead of letting them flourish elsewhere.
