Lucas Moura played well as Tottenham Hotspur drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Sunday.
On the chalkboard
Spurs struggled throughout the encounter at the Riverside Stadium and needed the Brazilian’s goal to force a replay after Ashley Fletcher had opened the scoring.
In a display that was largely devoid of genuine chances for the Premier League club, the attacker headed home after a fine cross from Serge Aurier.
And his performance throughout the encounter was a rare bright spark for Mourinho.
Per WhoScored, Lucas had 63 touches of the ball, while taking four shots on goal, with two on target.
While he did not register a key pass, he did have a pass success rate of 75%, while completing both of the dribbles he attempted.
The £36m-rated man also won three aerial duels and two tackles in a display that ended up rescuing his side.
The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?
Stepped up
With Harry Kane out injured, Spurs needed someone to step up and grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
Lucas did that when so many of his team-mates failed, heading home from close-range to keep the club in the competition’s hat.
Of course, he is not a No.9 in the same traditional vein as Kane but Mourinho, surely, will be pleased with the display.
It offered a possible look at the future with the England captain injured.
Without a traditional senior centre-forward to call upon – Troy Parrott is just 17 – Lucas could be the man to play through the middle under Mourinho.
Meanwhile, Spurs fans have slammed one man for his FA Cup display.
