The Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent James Pearce has taken to Twitter to share his verdict after it was confirmed that Neil Critchley had left Anfield to become Blackpool’s new Head Coach.
Critchley – who was previously in charge of the Liverpool U23 side – enjoyed a terrific season in charge of the Reds’ youngsters before teaming up with the Seasiders.
He took the reins in two of Liverpool’s first-team games this term, albeit while using his U23 players as Jurgen Klopp and the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk had other business to attend to.
Critchley first occupied the touchline when facing Aston Villa’s first-team in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, with the star names at Liverpool away on Club World Cup duty – the Villans recorded a 5-0 win.
However, the 41-year-old enjoyed perhaps his best moment as a coach when he beat Shrewsbury at Anfield in the FA Cup fourth round, again using his youngsters as the first-team were on their winter break.
Now, Pearce of The Athletic has shared his thoughts on the situation, which you can see below:
In other news, these Liverpool fans want Jurgen Klopp to sign this international striker, and it’s not Timo Werner…
