da esport bet: Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has been hailed by his manager Arsene Wenger, after the forward publicly stated his desire to stay at the club and scored a brace against Sunderland on Saturday.
Rumours have been rife that the Netherlands international may the next big name player to leave the Emirates, with his contract set to expire in June 2013.
However, the forward used his pre-match programme notes to abide Gunners fans fears that he could leave, and reiterated this after the 2-1 win over Steve Bruce’s men.
“I had seen loads of comments about a story like that, I thought after one or two days it would go away, but it didn’t so I felt it was time to explain things and I did that,” he told Sky Sports.
“I’m committed. This is my eighth year. If you can say of one player that he’s committed, it’s me,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Wenger was full of kind words for Van Persie, and is eyeing a contract extension to be tied up in the near future.
“Unfortunately the ideal situation in football does not exist often,” the French coach told his club’s official website.
“The ideal situation is that he extends his contract but if he doesn’t you have to respect that. You know what is important is that he plays like he plays because we are all here to see special football players and he is a special football player,” he stated.
The victory moves Arsenal back up into the top half, as they sit in 10th place with 10 points from eight games.
